Altered Spoons, Ying Yang Zentangle, Altered Book,

Here are some recent creations of mine. I created most of the items for other people during the months of February to March 2015. The Zentangle designs I created for a friend to help add some creativity to her website. The other art pieces below are swaps that took place on Facebook that I made and sent through the mail. I got items back in return from those trades. Maybe I will post later at another time of all the goodies I have received in trades. Click on the photos to see them larger on the screen. Enjoy viewing.

Ying Yang Zentangle

A friend at work wanted ying yang art work created by me to bring creativity to website. She wanted hearts. These three zentangles are done on blue paper, with black and white color pencil. My favorite one is the lotus flower and ribbon around it.

Altered Spoons

The first spoon was a swap I sent out to a lady in Nebraska and the picture on the front of the spoon is her grandchildren. I had trouble figuring out what to put on the front of the spoon so I asked her what photo could I use and she sent me this one. I printed it out and added it to the spoon. The hours spent on the spoon was between 3 and 5. I also added quilled hearts to hold the roses, with beading around the spoon and lace and trim, and with some roses and a large rose at the end of the handle. I cut down the center 1/8 width of quiling paper, curled it with my fingers then shaped it into words on the spoon handle to create the words My Family.

Second altered spoon (photos below) was in a swap I did online through facebook. The person living in Bixby, OK is a big color pink fan so I was hopping she would be thrilled with the pink altered spoon. I added pre-made roses I bought, lace, beads, and made two pink quilled butterflies. It took maybe 5 or 7 hours to make.

Altered Book

This was an altered book swap that was done through facebook and I sent in the mail. The person I sent this to lives in Kansas and is a Huge Steelers football fan. I got a book from one of the consignment bookstores that has a box by the door that has free books in it. I took this book and hollowed out the center of the book.  If you do not know how to hollow out the center of a book check out this link: http://how2dostuff.blogspot.com/2006/02/how-to-make-secret-hollow-book.html
Then I painted the inside the colors of the Steelers football team. I bought Steelers duct tape and black and gold yarn at Hobby lobby, then bought the Steeler's ribbon online, then went to Ac Moore and bought a football that was three dimensional looking from the scrapbooking section, created a cheerleader from paper and her pom poms and the hair came from cross stitch thread. I showed a friend on the bus along with co-workers  at work and I have two more orders to make for the Steelers altered book. This project took over 8 hours to create. I do not know how many exactly. But I have another altered art book to create so I will see how long that one takes for a friends birthday. So stay tuned more art of mine coming soon.

Quilling or paper filigree is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. The paper is wound around a quilling tool to create a basic coil shape. The paper is then glued at the tip and these shaped coils are arranged to form flowers, leaves, and various ornamental patterns similar to ironwork.

Quilling and Zentangle 3d Purple Doll

The 3d doll took me 11 hours to create her. I started first with the skirt and zentangled with a Bic purple pen and created the pattern from ideas online. I sketched it out first in pencil then erased the pencil marks and went over it in pen. The zentangle part took three hours just for the Bic pen part. Then I built the body around the skirt. The arms took the longest and struggled with them. I never add faces to the dolls because I am afraid I will mess it up and have to start it over. Quilling paper was used for the body. I used manila file folders and shredded my own strips for the skin tone. I had feathers at home so I cut some pieces off and added to the hat. The doll was finished on July 30, 2013.
